Water for Good’s Mission
Water for Good works collaboratively, in long-term partnership, with communities in Central Africa, empowering people with sustainable access to clean water, transformational sanitation principles, and improved agricultural resources.
More About the Central African Republic
Since gaining independence from France in 1960, the Central African Republic has experienced a permanent state of crisis, including rampant corruption, violence, and a steady stream of coups and regime changes. In spite of possessing plentiful mineral resources—especially diamonds—and strong potential for agriculture, the CAR is considered to be one of the most underdeveloped countries in the world.
In the past year, over a million people in the CAR, or about 20% of the population, have been forced to flee their homes due to fear of violence from militias and rebel groups. The people of the CAR also have very limited access to water, contributing to malnutrition, waterborne disease, and a host of other problems. The humanitarian challenges in the CAR have had a visible effect on the entire region, and the United Nations is currently supplying peacekeeping forces, though many fear this will be ineffective. Water for Good works to drill and maintain wells in the CAR to provide clean water for drinking, sanitation, hygiene, agriculture, and much more.
